The Unplanned Getaway

This is a two-year-old story that I am sharing with you today. It is about the unplanned trip that was decided upon in just seconds after missing the bus to the planned one. Confused? No, Yes. Okay let me be more specific. So there was a weekend trip planned by us to Nainital in the month of June, of course the weather compelled us to opt for a hill station at that time. We got ready early in the morning to catch the earliest bus from ISBT realizing on our way that we never looked up the bus schedule before starting. Nevertheless, we reached the bus stand and frantically started inquiring for the AC bus to our destination. To our dismay, all the buses to Nainital were pre-booked and the next bus was about 2-3 hours later. As we were pondering over what to do, I heard a conductor shouting "Jaipur, Jaipur". We immediately ran for the Jaipur bus, and got our tickets done. It was a Non-AC, general, Rajasthan Roadways bus but we were happy since we could finally start our getaway, though an unplanned one. It was not a comfortable journey because of the weather and the unwanted crowd and our desperation to reach Jaipur was increasing with every stoppage. On our way I realized that we had no hotel booking for our stay in the Pink City. I immediately dialed my father since he was the only one who could have managed the situation well and we got a room booked for us at a guest house.

With twinkle in our eyes we at last, reached Jaipur. The guest house was beautiful with homely food and cordial staff. One of the staff members also booked a taxi for us for sight seeing and that too at nominal rates. Our first visit in Jaipur was to "Chokhi Dhaani" which means special village and yes indeed it is unlike any other place. This place is situated in the outskirts of Jaipur and occupies a huge area consisting of everything from a village food court to elephant ride, bullock cart ride, maze, mela, astrology, circus, shopping booths, magic show, folk dances and also kaleidoscope. It was a great experience of Rajasthani culture. The next day was a day for fort visits. We first marched to the famous Amer fort which was the largest of all that we saw. It is a beautiful piece of art and defence shown by the then rulers of the city. We also visited the Meera-Krishna temple, located at the backdrop of the Amer fort which is missed by most of the tourists. It is an age-old temple which showcases the great craftsmen of India. After Amer, we visited Nahargarh and Jaigarh. It was a moment of pride to know that Jaigarh houses the largest canon in the world. Our other destinations included the exquisite City Palace, Jal Mahal, which was unfortunately closed, the local shops and the Albert Hall Museum. All in all, it was an amazing trip with all fun moments captured in our memories.

Our way back was much more smooth since we managed an early morning Volvo. With smile and satisfaction in our heart we headed back with no displeasure of not being able to visit Nainital. Although visiting Rajasthan, would be a big NO in peak summers, I could summarize this trip as the most enjoyable one. It is rightly said that happiness and sadness is all in the mind. If you want you can make the most unwanted situation a pleasant one and vice-versa. So it is important to always be happy and smiling because life rarely gives you a second chance.
